Local Issues supports community-based actions that create sustainable neighborhoods.
Sustainable neighborhoods mean healthier neighborhoods that use resources wisely, reduce waste through recycling and use reduction, support public transportation and alternatives to cars, support a vibrant permaculture of community green spaces, and give preference to locally produced goods and services. A sustainable neighborhood can be attained through planning, organization, community education and local action. Local Issues works with local neighborhoods organizations to do their part to implement PlanNYC for a more liveable city.
Local Issues also works with school parents and staff to support healthier interior air quality (through greener operation and maintenance policies and practices), reduce waste, improve recycling and introduce education about the built and natural environment into the curriculum.
